Using plastic, textile or metal straps to protect and hold the products together or fix them to pallets, are inexpensive and useful techniques for product protection and shipping. This technology is also ranges from manual operation to completely automatic systems. These may be grouped into these categories:
a. Manual system uses manual tensioning and crimping the strapping material with a metal clip or brace. b. Manual system utilizing a hand tool which either manually or automatically tensions the strap and seals it with heat produced by friction. c. Semi automatic system, which uses a table where the product is placed and strap is automatically tensioned and sealed by heat. Some systems will automatically place the strap around the product and heat-seal it, but the placement of the product is manual. d. The automatic systems deliver the product or the pallet by a conveyor and accomplish the strapping operation automatically. The strapping material used for this technology may be plastic: PE (Polyethylene), PET (Polyethyltriptophane), Textile (woven or glued), steel. It is useful to remember that each application has distinct advantages and disadvantages.
